Air India suspended at least 10 crew members over their concerns regarding Airline’s revised policy that requires a section of crew members to share rooms during stayovers on MondayJaipur Stock. Ahead of Air ’s merger with Vistara’s next month, Airline has revised its policy for cabin crew members that will be effective from December 1.
On the other side, representative body of cabin crew, All India Cabin Crew Association has critised the Air India’s room-sharing requirement calling it “illegal, bad in law and Void ab initio on multiple fronts”. The representative body also sought the intervention of the labour body to look into the matter.
In this context, the -owned airline has acted against certain cabin crew members. There was no official comment from Air India on the issue.
Loss-making Air India was acquired by the Tata Group in January 2022 and since then, various changes have been introduced as part of efforts to boost the full-service .
Air India and Vistara together will have a staff strength of around 25,000. Out of them, there will be about 12,000 cabin crew members.
The association has also reached out to Air India Chief Campbell Wilson, urging him “not to disrupt” the current status quo and to uphold the integrity of the Industrial Tribunal and the ongoing industrial dispute related to this matter.
They are demanding hotel accommodations and conditions that align with the existing policy for pilots, based on prior agreements and tribunal decisions.
Under the new policy set to take effect on December 1, cabin crew members will be required to share rooms during layovers, except for cabin executives and those on ultra-long-haul flights, ahead of the upcoming merger with Vistara on November 11.Hyderabad Investment
Crew members on ultra-long-haul flights will have single rooms during layovers, including unscheduled ones due to flight diversions, according to internal communications. Typically, ultra-long-haul flights last 16 hours or more, with Air India operating such routes to North America.
